To Tweet or not to tweet? Time is key

Research suggests that there are specific times to get the best exposure for your tweets.

OVER the last few weeks Northglen News has been giving its readers some helpful tips on maximising their Twitter experience.

The useful articles covered basics such as: creating the perfect profile, gaining followers and even what is the ideal content to tweet. Now that you’ve been empowered with all this information you might be tempted to simply post a regular tweet whenever it was most convenient (i.e. while using public transport or queuing in the bank).

But, studies have shown that this might not be the optimum time to send your creative and witty tweet. Saving your tweets for specific times and days could improve its exposure (unless it is breaking news).

Dan Zarrella, a social media scientist at Hubspot’s, research suggested that the best times to tweet are at noon and 6pm, when people are at lunch and when they are travelling home from work.

According to his research the optimum days to send tweets are from midweek and weekends. On Mondays and Tuesdays people are swamped with work after the weekend, but by Wednesday things start to quiet down as people prepare for the weekend. Weekends are ideal since people have free time to scroll and read up on the weekly events.

Zarrella’s also conducted similar research on Facebook usage, which yielded similar results. His findings suggested that Facebook activity spikes at noon and 7pm on most days. Facebook users also especially frequent the site on Saturdays.
