Local author makes Amazon bestseller list

Resident has made the top 30 of Amazon bestseller list in the 'Detoxes and Cleanses' category.

FOR any first time author, writing a book and making the bestseller list is a dream come true. This is true for former uMgeni Park resident, Camilla Carboni, who recently penned her first diet book, Paleo Cleanse: 30 Days of Ancestral Eating to Detox, Drop Pounds, Supercharge Your Health and Transition into a Primal Lifestyle.

She has now made the top 30 of Amazon best seller list in the ‘Detoxes and Cleanses’ category, just days after the release of her book. The book was co-authored by Melissa van Dover.

The former Crawford College pupil who now lives in Denver, Colorado, said she was excited about the success of her book and hoped it would encourage people to begin their journey towards good eating habits for a healthy lifestyle.

“Both me and my boyfriend, Matt, had a history of food allergies. I had symptoms of inflammation within the body and was convinced that there was a better way to resolve health complications than with Western medicine. Two years ago my boyfriend read John Durant’s The Paleo Manifesto and it simply made sense to him.

“The very next day I shared the details with Melissa, who had previously read Loren Cordain’s The Paleo Diet, and we agreed to take a 30-Day Paleo challenge, starting the following week. Just like that, The Paleo Pact was born,” she said.

Camilla added the challenge of writing the book was finding recipes and ingredients because there was so little knowledge about what in fact was Paleo.

“Questions like where to purchase Paleo foods and how to cook with them, that our 30 Days were a struggle, and that’s why we wrote Paleo Cleanse, so no one has to struggle like we did ever again,” she explained.

“The first week was the toughest for us, as the cravings for grain and sugar still persist so willpower is a necessity, but in week two those cravings start to diminish and by week three and four we couldn’t believe the difference in our energy levels, skin tone, sleep quality, exercise performance and ability to concentrate that we couldn’t stop there, and so our “Paleo Pact” became a Paleo lifestyle.

She added the book was a step-by-step guide for beginning and sustaining a Paleo lifestyle.

“The book provides readers with before and after worksheets to track their progress, as well as customized meal plans to help readers plan their weekly menus. In addition, the book features over 100 easy to make Paleo recipes. My advice to readers would be to keep it simple, don’t give up, ignore your critics and listen to your body,” she said.
