Mother of brothers killed on M4 speaks

The mother of the two brothers involved in the M4 accident said that she was still struggling to come to terms with the death of her sons.

IT has been more than a week since the tragic M4 accident that claimed the lives of six people, and the mother of  the brothers who died in the crash, Rashnee Juggath, yesterday said she was still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Juggath’s voice faltered momentarily as she told the Northglen News about ‘the most traumatic’ day of her life. “They were the most important people in my life. I still cannot believe that they are gone,” she said.

She first heard about the accident on the radio, the morning of the accident as she drove to work. At the time she did not know that her sons were involved. Several hours later she received the devastating phone call.

“I did not want to believe it. It was like my world had ended. At times I still believe that my boys will come barging through the front door,” she said, the emotion and sadness heavy in her voice.

When asked how she felt about the negative comments directed at the brothers and their friends, Juggath said she did not care about the claims and accusations. “I know that my boys are innocent. So, the police can do their investigations. Personally I just want to focus on remembering them and grieving. Nothing is going to bring them back. Even if I did find someone to blame or if the police determine that someone else caused the accident it will not bring them back,” said Juggath.

Kapil Juggath (20) lived with his father in uMhlanga while his brother and Sanvir (16) stayed with his mother in Chatsworth.

Juggath confirmed that the boys had gone out on the Saturday night to celebrate Kapil’s birthday – he had turned 20 on  Wednesday, 12 November.  “They were both excellent students. He put off any celebrations until he finished his studies. On the Friday he had written his last exam,” she explained.

Kapil was completing a Bcom Degree and dreamed of pursuing a career as a stock broker. His brother was a pupil at Crawford College La Lucia. Fondly, Juggath recalled that her youngest son was a sports fanatic while the eldest was a motorbike enthusiast.

The two boys, three of their friends and another commuter died in the tragic accident, after their vehicles collided and burst into flames on the M4, near Blue Lagoon, on Saturday, 15 November. Two other vehicles were also involved.

According to reports the group was socialising on Florida Road when one of them pulled out a firearm. Metro Police reportedly received a complaint and dispatched two vehicles to the scene. A high speed chase ensued after Metro Police arrived on scene.

The brothers died alongside their friends, Shaylan Moodley, Luke Naidoo, Sahish Daya (all aged 20).
