Criminals come knocking

AN Avoca resident was robbed at gun point, after a brazen criminal knocked on his front door.

AS the festive season approaches criminals are becoming increasingly brazen in terms of gaining access to people’s homes and their property.

Their shocking and surprising innovation and unabashed determination stretches from burring compact disks, which are believed to induce a deep sleep once the vapours are inhaled, to simply knocking on their intended victim’s from door.

On Monday, 17 November a sleepy Avoca resident found himself staring down the barrel of a gun, after he opened his front door to an armed assailant.

“The victim claimed that the he was asleep in his bedroom, when he heard someone knocking on his door, when he opened the door the armed suspect leapt into his living room and held him at gunpoint, demanding money,” said W/O Lutchman Singh, acting communications officer of Greenwood Park SAPS.

Singh confirmed that R300 was taken from the property, before the gun wielding suspect fled on foot. It is unknown if the suspect was known to the victim.

Residents are urged to practice extra precaution as the festive season is in full swing. They are warned not to open their doors unless they are entirely sure who is knocking.
