Puppy tied in a plastic bag, dumped on street

The puppy is currently being fostered by Durban North resident, Penny Toubkin.

AN abandoned puppy that was tied up, in a rubbish bag and thrown out of a moving car was rescued by a motorist who thought the vehicle in front of her was littering.

The incident occurred in Stanger recently and when the Samaritan picked up the bag to throw it into the trash can, it began to wriggle and she heard the animal’s terrified whimper. Zoe, whose rescuers believe is about 10 weeks old, was rushed to the vet with a suspected fractured leg. However x-rays later revealed she had inflammation and bruising to her leg after being tossed out of the window of a moving car.

She is currently being fostered by Durban North resident, Penny Toubkin, who helps the NPO Puppy SOS.

“When we first got her, she was absolutely terrified. She’d hide away from the other puppies and was generally docile. You’d expect that after her ordeal. She was stuck in a cage at the vets for three days before we started looking after her. I just can’t imagine why someone would tie a defenceless and innocent puppy in a black bin bag and throw her out of the window. It’s really the lowest form of humanity.”

Toubkin said it was difficult to tell her breed but said she may be a Jack Russell Terrier mix.

“Since then, she has adapted and is full of life and extremely affectionate. Thankfully she’s found her forever home with a loving family in Waterfall and has a wonderful future ahead of her,” she said.

Puppy SOS founder, David Hanson, said he too was shocked by the incident.

“It’s shocking and you hear stories like this all the time. What we need for pups like Zoe is families willing to foster other puppies. She has come a long way since her ordeal. I urge residents who would like to help foster puppies to email me on puppysoskzn@gmail.com
