Rescued dog suffers horrific injuries (Warning: graphic image)

Dog rescued after being found in 'excruciating pain' with wire collar embedded in his neck.

AN abandoned dog has been found with horrific neck injuries caused by an iron wire being embedded almost five inches into his neck. Elliot, as he is now being called, was rescued two weeks ago by Project Dog member Quicha Morgado from a home in Tongaat. The Corgi cross Shepherd is almost a year old.

“I was contacted by a couple that works with orphaned children in the area. They had seen the the dog roaming around. He had taken refuge in one of their outbuildings and was scavenging for food in the rubbish bins. Realising he was hurt they called me.

Morgado said she was horrified and shocked when she first saw him.

“He had maggots crawling all over his neck and the wire had embedded deep into his neck. He has probably been tied up since he was a little puppy and the wire cut through his neck. It’s unbelievable that the owners did not notice the pain and suffering he was going through,” she said.

Elliot has since been stitched up and Morgado said he has the friendliest demeanour despite his horrific injuries. He is currently living with the Morgado family in La Lucia.

“He is an extremely friendly and happy dog, forgiving as only an animal can be. He loves people and has lots of love to give, gets on well with other dogs and is looking for a home,” she said. If you can offer him a home contact Quicha on 083 272 7201.

The wire had cut so deep into Elliott’s neck that it caused the wound to become infected and covered in maggots.
