Meet Wandile: Get your backstage pass

Northglen News recently spoke to Wandile Chamane, a Durban North resident, who is co-hosting the Xtra Factor, a reality television show which features behind the scenes footage of the X Factor SA.

BEHIND the scenes at the X Factor South Africa, Wandile Chamane, thrived in the chaos and spotlight as one of the presenters of the behind the scenes reality television show, The Xtra Factor.

The Durban North resident, who co-hosts the show with singer-actor, Rory Booth, explained that the show is primarily about giving the audience a rare glimpse into the fun and drama behind the popular X Factor show. “We talk to the wardrobe and make-up staff as well as the contestants and the judges. The directors and producers of the show actually expect us to be insane, to create chaos and to disrupt,” she laughed.

Between takes the bubbly and gorgeous 25-year-old savoured every moment of this once in a lifetime opportunity. If she wasn’t brainstorming with the filming crew she would share a laugh with the contestants.

“It has been such an amazing experience. I get to work with a group of remarkable people, and have made so many new friends. After weeks of filming I still get nervous, but only when I am at home preparing. Once I am on set I feel free,” she said.

Before The Xtra Factor, the talented star made it to the top eight of the MTV Base VJ Search competition. She has launched her own online lifestyle show,1DC, and has been the official face for Milady’s for the last three years. “I started modelling at an early age, so I guess I have wanted to be in the spotlight since I was young. The type of spotlight has just evolved over the years. My ultimate dream would be to host my own talk show,” said Chamane.

Besides the entertainment industry the former Danville Park Girls’ High School pupil, is also pursuing a bachelor of education degree. “I love children and I enjoy explaining things, and connecting with people. That is why I can easily slip into both roles. I began my studies, because honestly did not think my career in the entertainment industry would have picked up as quickly as it did,” she said. Catch the energetic beauty and the X Factor contestants every Friday at 8pm on SABC 3.
