Cop accused of girlfriend’s murder due in court

The Metro policeman who stands accused of killing his 32-year-old girlfriend heads back to court.

THE METRO cop who the State alleges killed his 32-year-old girlfriend, Rose Bell at their upmarket Durban North home in August will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. The 44-year-old was released on R10 000 by magistrate Vanitha Armu in August who heard how police allegedly found a scatter cushion, with a hole in it hidden behind a couch the day after the fatal shooting on Tuesday, 19 August. Devon Govender’s attorney, Sunil Singh said the plan for tomorrow is to reconstruct the crime scene for the court.
The couple had been dating for five years. At the time a Terence Road resident, told the Northglen News he heard a muffled shot at about 10.15pm on the night Bell was killed followed by three ‘blood curdling screams. He said there was silence afterwards.
