La Lucia family held at gunpoint

Four armed men rob La Lucia home of cash and jewellery.

FOUR men armed with pistols and wearing balaclavas held up a La Lucia family, robbing them of R226 000 in cash and other items yesterday. The robbery occurred around midday on Glendining Court.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station, the domestic worker who was home at the time of the robbery, spotted a masked man with a pistol run up the driveway.

“He then held the gun to her and demanded to know where the ‘madam’s bedroom’ was. Three more of the suspect’s accomplices then showed up and then tried to kick in the door of the owner’s bedroom upstairs and were unsuccessful,” he explained.

A few minutes later the owner arrived with her son who she had picked up from school.

“The men spotted her and confronted her. They pointed their firearms at the owner and her son. She was then forced to open the safe. The men took an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery, a microwave, a DVD player and the keys to one of the vehicles parked outside,” he said.

The suspects fled the scene in a silver Golf. Deokaran believes it is the same men who held up a Glenashley family last week, robbing them of R 14 000 in cash and jewellery.

No arrests have yet been made.
