Taxi boss killed in shoot-out

A taxi boss was killed in a violent shoot-out on Old North Coast Road this morning.

TAXI violence has once again rocked the community after police confirmed that a taxi boss was killed during a shoot-out on Old North Coast Road this morning.

According to a police source, the taxi boss, who has not been identified, and his wife was ambushed by six armed gunmen at 7am. The gang, armed with handguns, waited for the couple at the stretch of road before the Sasol garage and opened fire on the vehicle.

The taxi boss died at the scene and his wife was critically injured. She was transported to a local hospital.

Evidence collected at the scene suggest that the shooting was a hit, said the source. Earlier this year an alleged hit was reported on Sanele Zondi, chairman of the KwaDukuza Taxi Association in Durban North.
