uMhlanga security guard remains critical

An Enforce security guard nearly died after he was shot in the leg.

THE security guard that was shot during a house robbery on Milkwood Drive in uMhlanga last night, remains in critical condition. The incident occurred at approximately 8pm, when the guard, who is employed by Enforce, responded to an activated alarm, and interrupted the intruders.

A fierce gun battle ensued between, what is believed to be several suspects and the security guard, as dozens of bullet casings were strewn in the street, and inside the home.

It was confirmed that the guard was seriously injured and was shot in the thigh. The bullet tore though his femoral artery, causing him to bleed out profusely. It is believed that the suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.

When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene the guard did not have a pulse, and was proclaimed clinically dead for several minutes, before paramedics were able to revive him.

“He had lost a great deal of blood, and it took paramedics four minutes to revive him. They were exceptional,” said Enforce Security director, Anthony Feuilherade. He is currently in ICU at St. Augustine’ hospital.

It is suspected that four or five suspects were involved in the incident, one of whom stood guard outside of the property while his accomplices ransacked the home. “This is the modus operandi that we have that we have noticed in recent months,” said Feuilherade.

Nico Potgieter, Head of Enforce Investigations, said that they are working relentlessly to track and arrest the individuals involved in the incident.

“Our dedication to establishing a break though is not only motivated by the fact that it was an Enforce security guard, but also by the fact that we are sick and tired of these violent home invasions,” he said.

Earlier this year a Marshall Security officer also sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder, when several armed men, carrying AK47s opened fire on him in Davallen Avenue, La Lucia.
