uMgeni Park resident murdered for a laptop

Robbers assaulted home owners partner before being confronted.

A SINGLE laptop, this is the price of your life in South Africa. More details have emerged following the brutal murder of an uMgeni Park resident during a house robbery last night.

According to the police, Stephen Edmonstone (63) was shot three times by intruders after they broke into his Collard Road home. He was shot  twice in the chest and once in head. It is believed the men had gained access through a bathroom window.

Once inside, they began assaulting the resident’s partner they began assaulting the resident’s partner who pleaded to the men to take whatever they wanted. When the home owner spotted the men, he confronted them and they fired three quick shots in close range.

The suspects then threw the murder weapon into the pool as they fled.

Durban North councillor Shaun Ryley expressed his sadness and offered his condolences to the friends and family of the 63-year-old.

“This specific incident has taken place in an area under the jurisdiction of a police station that is currently grappling with a crisis that can be seen in police stations across the country.

“A diminishing staff and the lack of roadworthy police vehicles has created a difficult situation and severly hampered the efforts of the remaining personnel at this station and that of a dedicated CPF. The availability of resources to police stations such as Greenwood Park needs to be expedited as the current standard places the security of the general puplic in extreme jeopardy.
