Cannon ready for TriRock challenge

Local triathlete weighs in on upcoming TriRock Durban race.

WINNER of the recent TinMan triathlon on Durban’s beachfront Mike Cannon looks like he will be coming into TriRock Durban (5 October) as one of the race favourites. With insight and introspection beyond his years, Mike Cannon explained what attracted him to the sport of triathlon,

“I have always enjoyed pushing myself, seeing how far I can go and testing my body. The sport of triathlon appealed to me because it is a sport where being ‘fast’ isn’t quite fast enough if you haven’t mastered the other two disciplines. It is a sport where you are constantly learning, modifying and making changes to your training program to gain those few extra seconds in a race.”

Cannon said he was looking forward to the upcoming TriRock Durban race.

“There are so many talented athletes in KZN, who are often starved of races. I have raced overseas quite a bit and have done numerous Ironman events and can confidently say that the TriRock Durban ranks amongst one of the best races I have ever done. This year’s race is going to be far tougher than last year, with an almost 100 per cent increase in numbers, which is fantastic.”

Cannon added he hopes to continue representing South Africa and to be at the top of his game when it comes to racing. He enjoys travel and wants to see more of the world while doing triathlon.
