NFP leader’s uMhlanga house ransacked

The NFP leader's uMhlanga house was ransacked when two armed men broke into her home on Wednesday morning.

HALF a million rand was stolen from the National Freedom Party’s (NFP) leader, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi’s uMhlanga home on Wednesday morning when two men broke into her home and ransacked it.

It is believed kaMagwaza-Msibi, who is also the deputy minister for science and technology, kept such a huge amount of cash in her home as it had been loaned for an auction that took place on Tuesday, 29 July. The NFP’s bid at the auction was accepted. She was quoted as saying that she borrowed the money to pay for the building the NFP is renting in Glenwood.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial SAPS spokesman, Cap Thulani Zwane, confirmed the incident: “A case of house robbery has been opened for investigation by the Durban North SAPS.”

Capt Zwane said that on 30 July, at about 4.30am kaMagwaza-Msibi was woken up when two men, armed with a knife, entered the house through an open window. The robbers then demanded kaMagwaza-Msibi show them where the safe is and demanded the code for the safe.

Her daughter, Gugu Gumede (22) was sleeping when the incident occurred. No one was injured.
