THE uMhlanga Fire Station has ruled out arson as the cause of the fire that gutted a La Lucia home’s entertainment area last night.
One of the firefighters, who did not want to be named, said the owners of the house reported that there was an electrical short in the house. On inspection, the residents saw that their entertainment area, that was about 40 square meters big, was on fire.
The firefighter said there was electrical equipment such as TVs and a bar fridge inside the entertainment area, that could have caused the fire due to an electrical fault, but he added that they have not yet established a conclusive cause for the fire.
He also confirmed that no one was injured during the fire and that the main house was unharmed.
