Henri bags silver at Commonwealth Games

'Best moment of my life' says Durban North triathlete.

SOUTH African junior triathlete champ, African champ and now Commonwealth Games medalist. Durban North traithlete Henri Schoeman, was part of the triathlon mixed teams relay that won silver on Sunday at Strathclyde Country Park in Glasgow. Schoeman was joined by fellow teammates Kate Roberts, Gillian Sanders and Richard Murray.

South Africa finished 49 seconds behind England’s awesome foursome of Vicky Holland, Jonny Brownlee, Jodie Stimpson and Alistair Brownlee while Australia came third.

“What a race, what a team, what a silver. A special thanks to everyone who helped and supported me along the way, you are a big part of this. This is a very proud moment in my life ,” the excited 23-year-old said.

Schoeman was also one of three South African athletes who finished in the top 20 of the Commonwealth Games elite men’s triathlon.

The former Oakridge College pupil finished 16th in a time of 01:53:46 and though he was disappointed with the result, he can take heart from his performance which saw him keep up with the leading pack of the race.
