R500 000 richer after 5 year battle with property giant

It took Brian Aberdeen almost five years to see the proceeds of a prize he won at Gateway.

A SUNNINGDALE man who thought he would never get his R1-million prize is over the moon after a protracted battle with a property group. Brian Aberdeen said today that he was finally paid out his prize that he won some five years ago.

Aberdeen, 49, had entered a competition  at Gateway Theatre of Shopping after he bought his son a pair of takkies and dropped his till slip into an entry box. Aberdeen had won a plot of land valued at R1-million at what was to be the upmarket Blythedale Coastal Resort (BCR). But to his horror the prize never materialised after the Zwelabantu Dube Community Property Association issued a land claim against BCR. The resort also did not get off the ground. Yesterday a negotiated settlement was reached with all the parties involved.

“I met with Mark Taylor from eLan Property Group yesterday and the matter has been sorted out. I am grateful that the matter has been concluded. I look forward to enjoying the pay out,” Aberdeen told the Northglen News. But the father of two said he had to settle for half of this original prize from the property giants. “I accepted R500 000 from eLan and this marks the end of this chapter in my life,” he said.

At the time Aberdeen’s prize was the prime land prize as well as R75000 to spend at Gateway and a family holiday to Alpine Heath.
