Shots fired, three arrested in house break-in
Avoca house robbers foiled in their attempt to escape.
A SECURITY officer is lucky to be alive after three men who had broken into a house in Avoca tried to run him over with their getaway car about an hour ago. Five armed men, according to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell were breaking into a house when they were spotted by a neighbour who alerted the security company. The incident occurred in Tyne Avenue.
Powell said when the response officer arrived at the scene he noticed the suspects vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, parked in the driveway.
“As he approached the driveway of the house, three suspects ran out of the house and jumped into the vehicle. One of the suspects attempted to reach for a firearm and the response officer dove for cover. The suspects then tried to run over the response officer as they reversed out of the driveway and the he fired five shots at the vehicle.
“The officer then got into his vehicle and chased after the suspects. However in their attempt to escape, they lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole on Matheran Road,” Powell said.
Two of the suspects fled on foot into the surrounding bush and were arrested by a patrol vehicle on Avoca Road, while another suspect was arrested by police. A further two remain at large.
Police found a number of housebreaking tools in the suspects vehicle and the stolen property was recovered.
