Man brutally murdered near Sibaya

Police appeal for witnesses after murder.

A MAN in his late 20s was stabbed to death in what police believe was nothing more than a petty robbery. The man who is yet to be identified was spotted by a passing motorist on the side of the N2 freeway (southbound between Sibaya Drive and the Gateway off-ramp).

When police arrived at the scene at about 1am on Sunday, 6 July, they made a grisly discovery. The man was lying face down on the side of the road, with three deep stab wounds to the left side of his body. The upper half of his body had been covered with a jacket.

Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said they believed the murder weapon was a large hunting knife. “The stab wounds were very deep and the knife may have a serrated edge which would match the punctures he sustained. Unfortunately we found no identifying documents or a wallet or cellphone on the man and at this point in time we believe the motive for the murder was robbery,” he said.

He added police were now searching for the killer/s and has asked anybody with information, or who is missing a family member, to contact Detective Carl Harishun 031 560 8032 or 072 501 3253.

“It has been five days since the victim’s murder and we are appealing for witnesses and family members who haven’t heard from their loved ones,” he said.
