THE city’s water boss has given an update on the water supply situation and again urged residents to go easy on their water.
“Our priority is to restore full supply to the affected areas. At present all reservoirs are holding and we managed to restore a 50% supply overnight. As long as residents go easy we should be okay for now,” eThekwini municipality ’s head of water and sanitation, Neil Macleod.
He added the municipality is still working out how long it will take to fully restore the water supply.
uMhlanga councillor Heinz de Boer cautioned residents to remain cautious as the situation, though not dire, is still serious.
“I urge residents to stock pile water for cooking and drinking. They must conserve as much as they can because there is no timeframe on restoring full water supply, and we’re not sure if there will be complications down the line in terms of repair work,” he said.
Yesterday metal thieves caused the suspension bridge that carries water across the uMgeni northwards to collapse. They cut a total of nine cables Macleod said.
