Another explosive find in Glen Hills

Two more grenades were found dumped at the illegal dump site in Malacca Road.

IN a space of a week, three hand grenades have been found in the Malacca Road informal settlement. On Thursday morning when residents woke up, they were shocked to find two hand grenades among the rubbish dumped along the road.

Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum chairman, Robin Candy, reported that residents once again scavenged through rubbish at about 10am on Thursday, 5 June when they came across two grenades, one of which was again wrapped in newspaper.

It is believed the one of the devices is a smoke grenade, while the other has the same texture as the hand grenade found at the illegal dump site last week. This time around residents did not remove it from the newspaper it was wrapped in fearing it could explode.

Greenwood Park SAPS officers are on scene and are waiting for the bomb squad to arrive to safely handle the bombs. It is suspected that a collector of military memorabilia is dumping the bombs at the illegal dump site.
