Local man shot twice by armed hijackers

Attempted hijacking leaves La Lucia man in critical condition.

A VERULAM based security company has reported that a man was shot in a botched hijacking near Hazelmere Dam on Saturday. A local daily newspaper identified the man as 73-year-old La Lucia resident, George Geyser.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa’s (RUSA) Facebook page the man was returning from an airfield which is used to fly model aircrafts when he noticed a branch blocking the road. When he stopped his vehicle he was ambushed by unknown assailants.

“The driver allegedly drove through the barricade and was fired upon by the suspects. The victim was struck twice in his right arm. He continued to drive until he reached the main road where he lost control of his vehicle and knocked a light pole before crashing into a tree”

The security company added that a passerby noticed the victim lying slumped in his vehicle and contacted them for assistance.

“The position of the vehicle restricted paramedics to render medical assistance. The vehicle had to be lifted by a tow truck to allow medics to gain access into the vehicle. The victim was stabilized and transported to a hospital in critical condition,” RUSA said on their Facebook page.

Geyser is reportedly at eThekwini Hospital.
