Man sentenced, 23 years for armed robbery

Subusiso Zuma was sentenced to 23 imprisonment for a business robbery in 2012.

ALMOST two years after a security guard was held up at gunpoint at a local petrol station, one of the robbers is finally going to prison. Subusiso Zuma was sentenced by a magistrate in the Durban Regional Court  to 23 years in prison.

According to the station’s communication officer, Lt Elvis Naidoo, three men held up the security guard in the early hours of the morning on 8 July 2012 at a petrol station on Chris Hani (North Coast) Road.

“Only one of the robbers had a firearm, which he pointed at the guard. The robbers then demanded money from the guard and made off with about R7 000 in cash,” Lt Naidoo said.

The security guard then put his own life at risk and chased after one of the robbers, who he managed to catch. The robber was handed over to police. During the pursuit, the security officer sustained head injuries.   Lt Naidoo said Zuma was charged with robbery and for carrying an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“I commend the security guard who caught the robber, as well as the officers involved in making sure Zuma was brought to book for his actions,” Lt Naidoo said. His two accomplices however are still at large.
