Sexual assault, robbery and kidnapping in a borrowed car

A man borrowed his neighbour's car, claiming he had an emergency to attend to, only for him and two of his friends to sexually assault, kidnap and rob a woman.

THE car used in the brutal molestation and kidnapping of a woman who waited for a taxi on North coast Road recently was borrowed from a neighbour. Police investigation into the incident has revealed that the suspect had told his neighbour that he had “an emergency to attend to”. The unsuspecting neighbour lent the alleged kidnapper her car. Little did she know that it would be used not only in a kidnapping but also the sexual assault and robbery of an innocent woman.

Last week Northglen News reported that a woman was waiting for a taxi under a bridge in Chris Hani Road when a car stopped close to her. One of the occupants of the car got out to urinate near the woman. Police reported that another man jumped out the car and grabbed the woman from behind, shoving her into the car.

“While inside the car one of the three men loosened the woman’s belt and started molesting her. He told her he wanted to have sex with her,” said Lt Elvis Naidoo, communication officer at Greenwood Park SAPS.

He added that: “The driver of the car then refused to drop the woman off where they had picked her up and proceeded to the Glen Anil industrial area where they dumped her. A nearby security guard saw the woman crying and alerted police.”

The men made off with her cellphone, airtime, cash as well as food. One week later, police managed to get a description of the car the suspects were driving. “The complainant gave us a registration number for the vehicle, which we then tracked ownership of. We proceeded to the owner’s address, where we spoke to a woman (the owner of the car).”

Once police interviewed the neighbour, he gave up his two accomplices. “When we arrested the other two suspects, they showed the detectives where they had dumped the woman’s belongings. All her belongings were recovered, as well as a knife that was used during the robbery.”

The suspects were arrested, detained and are due to appear in court soon.
