A detailed account of how Jason Arnold captured a 2.35 meter black mamba.

Here’s  a blow by blow account of how local snake man, Jason Arnold captured a 2.35 meter black mamba that had coiled itself under a Prestondale family’s Wendy house yesterday.

12 noon: Wednesday, 7 May: Arnold gets the call from the Mallon family that the mamba had been spotted by their neighbour.

12.30: Arnold arrives at the Mallon home in Fern Road, Prestondale. Several neighbours have come out to watch the capture

12.40: Arnold spots the mamba, using a torch at the far end of the Wendy.

12.42: He prods with the swimming pool leave cleaner. Mamba does not budge.

12.48: Arnold gets a spade and digs up sand around the Wendy house in an effort to dislodge the snake. One of the children remark: “This is more interesting than watching rugby.”

1.00: He sees movement and shouts for the family, neighbours and children to “move back”.

1.05: Everybody scatters and we hear a child scream. But Arnold has the snake firmly in his grip with its pitch black mouth exposed.

1.10: Neighbours, Northglen News and the Mallon family move in to take pictures of and with one of the world’s deadliest snakes.

1.15: Arnold again advises everybody to move back so that he can bag the mamba.

1.30: Mallon family at ease.
