Seabrookes presents ‘The Dairy of Adam and Eve’

NGN talks to Catarina Morgado about the difficulties of being an actor, director and producer of the upcoming play, The Diary of Adam and Eve.

YOU could say La Lucia resident, Catarina Morgado’s acting career began when she was just a little girl. She loved performing in front of the camera for her family and would pretend to host her own cookery show, as well as pretend to be a news anchor. Her willingness to try out different roles from a young age has translated into her versatility in her theatrical career as well.

The former Our Lady of Fatima pupil has played a range of roles including a middle aged woman from Queens, New York, a drug addict in Polaroid Storiesis and is now playing a trio of roles for the upcoming play, The Diary of Adam and Eve. Not only is she the producer, but also the director and actor.

“It’s been really tough to juggle the roles so far but it’s a challenge I’m relishing. I’m used to going to the director to ask for directions on a certain scene. They say show business is full of great ideas, but nothing happens until a producer takes the initiative to turn a good idea into a finished product.

“The director determines the overall mood and tone of the final production, and the actors have to please both the producer and director so I think I’ve managed to do that so far,” Morgado laughed.

The 27-year-old is a graduate of The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City and AFDA Cape Town and has urged Durban North residents to come out and support the play which starts later this month.
