Garth’s batty about cycling

Intrepid adventurer Garth Lezard says he will now cycle to every provincial cricket stadium around the country as well as the Super Rugby rugby venues to raise funds for charity.

THE Sunfoil Dolphins have voiced their support for globe peddler and Durban North resident, Garth Lezard. Captain of the Dolphins handed over a signed copy of the cricket team’s kit which will be auctioned off for charity.

After cycling through four countries on six continents totalling 30 000 kilometers, the intrepid adventurer recently returned from the Oceania region, (which included cycling across Australia, New Zealand, Samoa and Fiji) to raise money for the Leonard Cheshire Home which looks after people with disabilities, illness and people living with degenerative disorders.

When he began the Oceania trip, he mapped out routes through Australia and New Zealand, specifically by visiting the different Super Rugby teams.

“Along the way, I started collecting memorabilia from the Super Rugby teams and then selling raffle tickets for the items as I stopped over in various towns along the route. There have been many around the world cycling adventures completed, but I want to be the first Super Rugby fan to be recognised as having cycled through all 15 Super Rugby venues in the world,” he said.

“I’m now hoping to cycle through to every South African Super Rugby venue starting with my home team and Currie Cup champions.”

While he was Down Under, Lezard decided to include the various cricketing stadiums around Oz and has now decided to extend his trip to the South Africa’s major cricket venues.

Garth has also been taking photographs and interviewing coaches and players, so he can document his journey and produce a product at the end of his three and a half year mission, which he hopes will be inspiring.

“The biggest aspect of this trip is raising funds for Leonard Cheshire,” he said.

Lezard is hoping to begin his South African leg of the journey at the end of April. If you would like to get involved in Garth’s adventure email garthlezard@hotmail.com
