Armed robberies plague north Durban

Three armed robberies happened in one week in the north Durban areas.

HOME is known to many people as a safe haven, but last week it proved to be anyhting but that when two separate armed robberies rocked Durban North.

In the first armed robbery, five armed men driving a silver Mercedes blocked a resident as he was reversing his father-in-law’s car out their driveway.

“The armed men ran to the driver of the car demanding money. They took the Almera’s key out the ignition, opened the boot and stole a number of goods from the boot,” Lt Elvis Naidoo, spoeksman for Greenwood Park SAPS, said. One of the armed robbers also left a box of bullets inside the car. They left the Almera behind and fled the scene.

Lt Naidoo said no shots were fired and no one was injured. No arrests, nor the recovery of goods, have been made.
In another robbery, a man was assaulted by three armed men.

According to Lt Naidoo, the victim was outisde his house when the three men approached him. “One of the robbers punched the owner of the house in the face. He then ran to a neighbour’s house to call police,” he added.

The robbers then forced their way into the house and found the man’s terrified parents inside.

“The armed robbers then held up the family and stole a number of goods. A neighbour reported seeing a white Corsa bakkie, driven by another suspect, drop off the three armed robbers. One shot was fired, but no one was injured. No arrests have been made,” Lt Naidoo said.
