Locked in B&B bathroom fearing for her life

Marshall Security arrest suspect involved in an armed robbery of a Bed and Breakfast in Durban North.

A WOMAN had to lock herself in the bathroom of a Bed and Breakfast establishment, fearing for her life after two men gained entry under the pretext of looking for a room. According to police the men were so determined to get to the woman that they punched a hole in the door in an effort to reach her. But their attempts were foiled when they were disturbed by another guest.

The drama unfolded at a B&B  situated at the corner of Old Mill Way and Chelsea Drive. A man who was arrested has denied any wrong doing despite being positively identified by members of the establishment. Marshall Security arrested the man as he tried to flee the scene of the crime.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the two men entered the establishment  armed with a knife and threatened the manageress. “They then cable tied her hands together and assaulted her,” Deokaran said.

Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell said one of the company’s street patrol guards was alerted by a member of the public.

“The first suspect was arrested at the intersection of Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway) and Old Mill Way. The second suspect fled across Northway and dropped a bag containing paperwork and a laptop that was taken from the B&B.

“The arrested suspect initially denied his involvement claiming the other suspect had stopped him when they were walking past and told him he had a job for him at the address. He later admitted that the suspect who got away was armed with a knife and a firearm and that they had decided to rob the home,” Powell said.
