It all adds up for Kayrav

Crawford Prep pupils shine in local maths competition.

CRAWFORD Preparatory La Lucia recently hosted the second mathleague.org competition in KwaZulu Natal with Crawford pupil Kayrav Naidoo placing first in the competition with the highest mark overall. He was joined by a number of pupils from his school who featured in the top 10.

Mathleague is an American based competition where all the top schools in the USA compete against each other. It is a competition which tests all aspects of mathematical thinking and reasoning.

The main organizer, Bill Griffiths, flew out from the USA to conduct the competition after having organised competitions in Cape Town and Bloemfontein over the past two weekends.

All pupils had to write six individual tests as well as compete in a final team event. The scores from each round were then added together giving the pupils their final totals. Tests were very difficult and varied from speed tests, multiple choice tests, problem solving tests to brain teasers.  All Grade 4, 5, 6 and 7 pupils wrote the same tests and the younger pupils must be complimented on their perseverance and tenacity when answering the questions.
