Morgado nominated for prestigious award

Among the nominees for the Motor Sportsman of the Year' award, is La Lucia's Cristiano Morgado.

LA LUCIA resident and four time world karting champion, Cristiano Morgado, is one of eight nominees that is in line to win the 2013 Bridgestone/Guild of Motoring Journalists ‘Motor Sportsman of the Year’ award. The 34-year-old drove to his fourth overall and third consecutive DD2 master’s title in the Rotax Max Finals Karting World Championship last year at the NOLA Motorsports Park race track in New Orleans last year.

Morgado said he was honoured to be one of the nominees. “It is a prestigious award in South African Motorsport covering all the forms of motorsport we have, and I’m just grateful to be one of a list of amazing nominess. My thanks goes to the motoring press association as well,” he said.

This is the world champ’s third nomination. Morgado said last year was an exceptional outing for various SA competitors. “Giniel De Villiers had a fantastic performance in the Dakar. He’s a world class performer every year. New talent also made an appearance in the form Kelvin van der Linde, who won the Scirroco Cup in Germany, and Hudson Kennaugh winning the British Superbike title,” he said.

Morgado, who took a break in December, said he hopes to compete in the South African and European seasons and hopes to again compete in the world finals at the end of the year.
