School’s out at The Barnyard

Celebrate the best music through five decades' school reunions (Classes of '69, '79, '89, '99 and '09).

IT’S time to experience a time warp of school reunion party celebrations, when The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway brings you Best Days Of Our Lives from 11 March to 20 April. School’s out and your headmistress will guide you through five decades’ school reunions (Classes of ’69, ’79, ’89, ’99 and ’09), celebrating the music and songs from the best days of our lives.

The class of ’69 are the flower children from a generation that defined pop culture with songs such as Time Of The Season and California Dreaming. They broke all the rules and were definitely not just Another Brick In The Wall. The class of ’79 wore crazy platform shoes when mirror balls and disco music took the world by storm, creating a never-ending party to the sounds of Freak Out, Play That Funky Music, Stayin’ Alive, My Sharona, Barracuda and let’s not forget to stay at theYMCA.

They were music lovers who loved life and a party. The class of ’89 remember the good times when we partied to songs like Walk Like An Egyptian, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Just Can’t Get Enough.

They were fun, daring and loved their music, especially when it came to those heart-rendering ballads such as I Can’t Fight This Feeling, I Want To Know What Love Is and Waiting For A Girl Like You.

The class of ’99 partied at the turn of the century – when we celebrated the winning of the Rugby World Cup in 1995 and danced to our own South African music artists such as Brenda Fassie, Johnny Clegg and Mandoza. They were innovative and always ready for a party, yet there were those poignant moments when we think back and reminisce with songs like Wind Beneath My Wings, A Moment Like This and One Moment In Time.

The class of 2009 was defined by divas such as Christina Aguilera and rock bands such as The Kings of Leon.
