Umhlanga Hospital hosts pregnancy awareness day

Umhlanga Hospital hosted a pregnancy awareness day at the hospital last weekend.

BEING well informed about pregnancy can go a long way for expectant mothers towards ensuring a healthy, happy pregnancy and help to smooth their transition into motherhood.

It is for this reason that Netcare Umhlanga Hospital hosted a pregnancy awareness exhibition for pregnant mothers and their partners as part of Reproductive Health Month on Saturday, 22 February.

The hospital’s maternity unit and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hosted healthcare professionals and exhibitors who were on hand to answer questions and give advice to pregnant couples.

“Those attending also had the opportunity to visit Netcare Stork’s Nest clinic, maternity unit and delivery suite. Several lucky draws were added attractions,” said Netcare hospital general manager, Dr Burton Shinners.

Two Sharks’ players’ wives, Ku Mtawarira, wife of Springbok and Sharks rugby player Tendai (“The Beast”) Mtawarira, who had both her babies, Talumba and Wangu, delivered at Netcare Umhlanga Hospital; and Nicolene Alberts, wife of Sharks rugby player, Willem Alberts, who gave birth to their daughter Lisa at the facility five months ago, were the guest speakers.

In addition, Tarryn Ford, who had pinhole surgery performed on her baby in-utero and who also gave birth to her son, Joel Hayden Ford, at the hospital shared her experiences.
