Health in spotlight at NGHS

Northlands Girls' High School is taking special care of its pupils following the opening of a health bar at the school.

NORTHLANDS Girls’ High School is determined that its pupils be fit, healthy and educated on all matters concerning health and well-being.

This year has seen the traditional style tuck shop be replaced with a new health bar, which included delicious salads and wraps, nuts, biltong, popcorn and fruit and there is not a can of cold drink in sight.

Meanwhile, NGHS sport coordinator, Cynthia Field, has been working closely with health experts who have been busy assessing girls weight, flexibility and BMI and spine assessments. The girls will also be testing for diabetes and other blood sugar related disorders.

All pupils are having their own exercise and diet plans produced and being encouraged to make use of the new fully fitted gymnasium, which was opened in January, complete with rowing machines, treadmills, bikes and weights.

Girls at NGHS who are school, provincial and national sportswomen are also being assisted with programmes to ensure they are performing at their optimum.
