‘We’re doing it for mom’

Durban North brothers say their mom will be their inspiration as they tackle their 10th Dusi together.

THIS year’s Dusi Canoe Marathon takes on special significance for Durban North brothers, Jody and Duane Taylor, for two reasons. Not only are the duo both completing their 10th Dusi, which means securing their permanent number, but also because they are facing their first Dusi without their mother who died last year after battling cancer.

“There’s no doubt this is going to be a tough race. My mom has been seconding us since our very first Dusi in 2002 and this will be the first time she’s not there. It’s going to be a huge motivation for us and her passing has only strengthened our commitment to supporting the Pink Drive initiative,” Duane said.

The brothers have been involved in the Comrades as well as the Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon where they wore pink in personal support of the cause and the former Northwood School pupils will once again paddle in support of the Pink Drive this year.

“We are doing this in honour of our mom and it’s such a blessing to be paddling with Jody,” he said.
