Rugby Rush weekend looms

Durbanites will be treated to three days of on and off the field action, in four exciting game formats - Tens Rugby, Touch Rugby, Sevens Rugby and Supporters Play at the Rugby Rush weekend.

THE world of rugby will explode into a weekend of tackle, touch and entertainment as Rugby Rush seizes the outer fields of Growth Point Kingspark Stadium from 21 to 23 March.

Durbanites will be treated to three days of on and off the field action, in four exciting game formats – Tens Rugby, Touch Rugby, Sevens Rugby and Supporters Play, while enjoying the city’s best vibes and entertainment.

With the increased national interest in ‘Tens’ rugby, through tournaments like the Cape Town Tens and East Coast Tens, Rush Tens now offers Tens players countrywide, the opportunity to vie for the Rush Tens Crown.  Three divisions will allow players the chance to run out for their team.  From the top form players in the ‘Total Rush’, to the less competitive ‘No Rush’ and the fun-seeking ‘Beer Rush’, the tournament is ready to kick off.

For those players most interested in the skills aspect of the game, an opportunity to test themselves in the exciting, fast-paced agile game of Rush Touch has been planned, with 32 teams, in two divisions ready to take up the challenge for the silverware in the Touch Rush!

The South African Touch Association’s (SATA) professional Touch rugby players will also be in action during the Rugby Rush weekend.  Touch Players will be digging deep for the ‘rush’ required to be selected as a member of the Springbok squad, as the event will be used by SATA to select the national squads for the 2015 Touch Rugby World Cup.

A first for KZN is the introduction of a Junior 7’s Rugby Festival; local senior primary rugby players will pitch themselves against Durban’s finest junior school teams, in an attempt to place the 2014 Sevens Rush trophy in their school’s trophy cabinet.
