International hockey coming your way

SA will take on Argentina in a five match series starting this Wednesday (11 December) at the Riverside Sports Club.

HOCKEY enthusiasts will be in for a treat this December as Argentina’s national men’s team take on South Africa in a five match series. The first will hit-off at 6pm on Wednesday, 11 December at the Riverside Sports Club in Durban North. The visitors are ranked 11th in the world, while South Africa are just a place below them.

As many as five of Riverside Hockey Club’s first team players are expected to feature, including Durban North brothers Wade and Taine Paton, Tim Drummond, Keegan Robinson and former Northwood School Old Boy and goalkeeper Gowan Jones.

Riverside Hockey Club’s chairman, Wayne Philips, said the upcoming match is guaranteed to be an almighty clash which has already created much buzz and excitement amongst the local hockey community.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the opening match which will be the only match played under light at Riverside Sports’ fantastic facilities and are delighted that people from the North Durban area will be exposed to this level of world-class hockey. We encourage every one of all ages and from all over KZN to join us for what should prove to be an unforgettable evening of pure hockey enjoyment.”

On the day of the opening match, Riverside Hockey Club will be hosting a junior open day for all players between the ages of 8-13 years of age who would like to participate in some fun mini games. Entry is R20 per vehicle to the public and all senior Riverside Hockey members will have free access into the grounds.

The dates of the additional four matches are:
Thursday 12 Dec 2013 @ 3:30pm (Kearsney)
Saturday 14 Dec 2013 @ 3pm (Queensmead)
Sunday 15 Dec 2013 @ 3pm (Queensmead)
Tuesday 17 Dec 2013 @ 6:30pm (Pietermaritzburg)
