Channeling new hunger for veggie growth

Sibaya Casino gives back to the community by building a vegetable tunnel for the Domino Foundation.

SIBAYA Casino’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) team put their hands to the plough in aid of the Angel’s Project, Domino Foundation Vegetable Tunnel development.

The first phase of the tunnels took place on Tuesday 22 October where 2 000 seedlings where planted by the Sibaya CSI team.

The casino has sponsored one tunnel, to the value of R144 799, with the vegetables grown in this tunnel used to sustain the Domino Foundation’s soup kitchen.

The soup kitchen has been running for the last three years in Brookdale, Phoenix. The Domino Foundation is a community based non-profit organisation, working in the Amaoti area. The foundation runs a soup kitchen which provides meals to 2 500 children twice a day, at 30 crèches. These crèches fall under the early childhood development programmes, which are run by the foundation.

The tunnels will assist towards the soup kitchen’s grocery bill by enabling the foundation to sell vegetables to the community at a reduced rate as well as educating the community on how to grow their own vegetable garden.
