Stolen car found in Durban North

Durban North SAPS secured the arrest of a man in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

DURBAN North SAPS arrested a 34-year-old man, Siboniso Mnyandu, for possession of a stolen vehicle.

On Friday 18 October at about 2pm, Durban North SAPS officers spotted a suspicious white Mercedes Benz driving through the uMhlanga area. The police asked the driver of the vehicle to pull to the side of the road for an inspection. Thy discovered the vehicle was stolen in Bayview.

According to the provincial SAPS communication department, it has been established that the suspect is also linked to a number of cases that took place in Cape Town and surrounding areas.

He appeared in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on 21 October on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. He will be transferred to Cape Town for further investigation. He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to a later date.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the swift police response that led to the arrest and the recovery of a hijacked motor vehicle.
