Family devastated over murder

Greenwood Park resident demands answers after the death of his 27-year-old brother outside a popular night club on North Coast Road.

HE was multi-talented, a promising inventor and had plans to start his own family, and his brother, friends and neighbours all agree it was a life cut too short. Floyd Moody (27) died after being assaulted outside a nightclub on North Coast Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (13 October). His murder has sent shock waves through the close-knit Greenwood Park community, and his family is demanding the man responsible for his murder be brought to justice.

His brother, Arnold, spoke to Northglen News last week, and said his brother had bought snacks from a service station next to the Empyre night club, when he was caught up in an argument. “I separated my brother from the altercation and he was with another group of people. I was speaking to the other guy to try and cool the situation down,” he said.

Then Arnold recalled seeing his brother being punched by a man he believes to be one of the club’s bouncers. “He was dragged across the road with his head scraping against the tarmac and was left on the centre island. He was unconciouss and was bleeding out of his ears and nose. A friend picked up Floyd and took him to Addington Hospital. He was then taken to Albert Luthuli to have further scans.

“The doctors told us he was beyond surgery and that he was brain dead,” Arnold said. His brother later passed away from a subdural hematoma (a solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues of the brain). “All I want is for justice to be served, as a family we are hurting, the house just feels so empty without him.”

Cameron Kruger, owner of the Empyre Night Club said he sympathised with family over their loss. “According to a statement, the incident occurred two buildings away when the security saw a person being attacked and attempted to seperate the men. He (Floyd) was moved to the centre island to ensure he was safe because he was on the main road,” Kruger said.

Greenwood Park police spokesman, Lt Elvis Naidoo, confirmed that a case of murder had been opened and they were investigating all possible leads.
