Brown bids Golden Hours farewell

Golden Hours School principal, Gordon Brown, bids the school farewell after 10 years.

AFTER a whopping 41 years of service to the Department of Education, Golden Hours School principal, Gordon Brown, bids the school and his teaching career, farewell.

This follows the announcement of his retirement after being appointed as the school’s principal 10 years ago.

He started his teaching career in 1973 and served nine different schools as he passed from teacher, to senior teacher, then head of department and deputy principal (Westridge High School) and finally, principal at Golden Hours School.

Gordon fondly refers to his time at Golden Hours School as being some of the happiest years of his teaching career: “I thoroughly enjoyed my years here and the children are like my own children to me.”

Although he only reaches his full retirement age in August next year, Gordon firmly believes that he still has some juice left in him and would like to spend a few years doing charity or missionary work.

He said the school is doing exceptionally well at the moment, with an excellent and stable staff and strong school governing body.

“The school has a very competent and experienced management team, and deputy principal, Rowan Hornby, has proved to be an excellent deputy principal who is more than capable to take the school forward until the new principal is appointed,” he said.

“I will really miss the wonderful children of our school and wish to thank my teachers and parents for the support and love they have shown me over the last 10 years.

”I know our school will continue to enjoy the generosity and support which the Durban North community has always shown and extend my personal thanks for all the friends of the school who have supported me over the years.

“I know the Lord has a very special place in His heart for our special children and that He will continue to bless our school and all that go there,” he added.
