Local crowned Miss Teen Commonwealth

Local teen wins national competition.

DEMI Botha has a rare ability both on and off the sporting field. Her sporting prowess has meant she is the current South African U19 badminton ladies doubles champion and at the end of last year, the 18-year-old was crowned the All African Aerobic Gymnastics (in the 15 to 17 age group) champion. Now the Durban North beauty can add another notch to her growing list of accolades, being crowned Miss Teen Commonwealth South Africa.

It was the first time the competition was held in South Africa and the Victory Christian Academy pupil now has the opportunity to represent SA at the Miss Teen Commonwealth international competition in London.

“Most people see the competition as a beauty competition but it’s more than that. We all have a social responsibility and we have to work with various local charities,” she said. Demi added she would like to support the babies homes around the North. “I see this as a community empowerment platform.”

While the head girl will admit to being at home on the sports field, Demi said she wasn’t as nervous when the judging began.

“I have done a few pageants so I wasn’t as nervous. When they called out my name as the winner, I was just ecstatic,” she enthused.

To compete in London for the Miss Teen Commonwealth, Demi needs to raise R25 000. She is appealing to businesses and residents to help raise funds for her trip.
