Virginia reflect on incredible season

Virginia United Football Club have a season to remember.

VIRGINIA United Football Club has just had every statisticians dream as far as their soccer season is concerned. The U10, U11 and U12A team were particularly impressive. Northglen News recently caught up with three of the coaches and captains to find out why their respective teams have been so effective. Les Crawford, who has been with the club for almost 30 years and saw his son play for the club, said continuity has been key to his U12A team’s success.

His side recently won the league and cup for a second successive year. “The boys were just fantastic. They were committed and I hope to continue this trend as we move up an age group next year,” he enthused.

Martin Cele, head coach of the U10 team also had a season to remember. Not only did his team finish the season unbeaten for the fifth time in a row and win the league, but his charges also scored 60 goals while only conceding eight. “We are very lucky at Virginia FC to have such a large talent pool. I’m very proud of the team,” Cele said.

Another man who has reason to smile is the U11 coach, Mike Hatton, whose team also secured the double, winning the league and cup. “It certainly wasn’t the easiest season but the boys showed incredible heart. Last year we won the cup and this year our goal was to win the double and we are just ecstatic with our performances,” Hatton said.

Nkateko Khoza, captain of the U10 team, congratulated his teammates on yet another successful season. “The team has been super again this year and we are looking forward to continuing our unbeaten streak next year,” Nkateko said. Fellow captains, Calvin Davis (U11) and Marko Mottura (U12A) both concurred with Cele, saying this season was one of the best.
