Suspect arrested with more than 50 items

Suspect found with a number of items including hotel keys, jewellery and clothing.

DURBAN North SAPS arrested a man with more than 50 items of stolen goods with him on Friday. The suspect was arrested in the bushes around Ypsilanti Avenue.

Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, said police also uncovered three other settlements in the bushes. “The suspect had 52 items that we suspect were stolen, including a number of clothing items, with their tags still on. We also found jewellery, batteries and a number of house and hotel keys. He also had a long bladed knife with him,” he said.

Deokaran said he was pleased with the operation and said these types of operations will be conducted on a regular basis. “This is third time in recent months we’ve focused on vagrants and dismantling structures. The station commander has committed to conducting similar sustained operations going forward,” he said.

“We want to send out a clear message to the criminal elements in the area. Crime will not be tolerated and offenders will be arrested,” he said.
