Encourage employees to give blood

SANBS appeals to decision-makers at businesses, and community centres to encourage people to donate blood. Blood donation is not a major priority in people's lives and often they find it difficult to make the time to donate blood.

SEPTEMBER is traditionally a difficult time for the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) to get blood due to the preliminary exams and the short school holidays.

Often there are not enough corporate blood drives to fill the gaps left by the absence of school and tertiary institutions blood drives.

SANBS is, therefore, required to source new blood drives and increase collection at existing blood drives in the regions it operates within.

SANBS appeals to decision-makers at businesses, and community centres to encourage people to donate blood. Blood donation is not a major priority in people’s lives and often they find it difficult to make the time to donate blood.

The organisation wants to make blood donation as convenient as possible by ensuring that blood drives are done at places of work or where it is convenient for people to donate blood. Preferably companies and areas where there is a minimum of 200 people and are able to provide blood drives with a minimum turnout of 20 blood donors.

If your company, community organisation or school is interested in hosting a blood drive visit, call 0800 11 90 31 or www.sanbs.org.za and fill in the application form.
