33-year-old man stabs son twice with a screwdriver.

THE father of a two-year-old boy who alleged his son was stabbed by three men an attempted robbery while they were walking along Ryde Place, has been arrested. The 33-year-old alleged his son was stabbed by the suspects and died from his wounds, but it has now emerged he allegedly stabbed the boy with a screwdriver.

He was detained on Friday night at the Greenwood Park SAPS after he allegedly admitted to the killing. According to a source close to the police, the man ran to a former employer’s for help and used the story of being mugged. “After he was taken in for questioning, the man confessed to the killing. He alleged after the robbery he hid in the bushes, before making his way to his former employer’s house,” he said.

DA ward councillor, Heinz de Boer, said he was shocked at the actions of the father and said it was a tragic incident. “I can’t understand how a father could do that to his son. My condolences go out to the toddler’s family,” he said.

The Durban North/uMhlanga Crisis Team is raising funds for the toddler’s funeral. A collection box has been placed at the Glenashley Wimpy.
