FORMER employees of the Old Sugar Mill of Mount Edgecombe gathered at the Cabana Beach Hotel for the first official reunion, since it closed down in 1994.
The mill, which was erected in 1878, eventually closed down due to development in the area encroaching on the sugar plantation lands, causing them to diminish over time, said Mike Karlson, the old mill manager.
Good vibes and laughter filled the crowd as they reminisced over the good old days and caught up on news. “It is so nice to see everyone, and shocking to learn how far many have travelled. I was thrilled that I was able to remember all of their names. It was such an honor to work with these folks. We operated at a team and achieved great results,” said Karlson.
