Help find Whiskers

Whiskers has been missing since this morning after she escaped from a car.

DURBAN North residents are urged to be on the lookout for a female cat, Whiskers who escaped from a car, while being transported to the vet this morning.

According to a Facebook status, posted by Tracey Hartley of the Feral Cat Rescue Trust, Whiskers was being taken to the Durban North vet, at the corner of Hoylake and Swapo (Broadway) to be spayed. The feline then escaped from the car, ran away and is now lost in an unfamiliar area.

Tracey has appealed for secure carriers to be used when transporting cats. “In some cases, a picnic basket is used and this is not a secure carrier. Those baskets are used for food, food cannot jump out of that basket, but cats can. When cats are confined, they become terrified and will jump out of those flimsy baskets in seconds. This tragedy happens far too often and usually the cat is never seen again,” she said.

The stray feline responds to her name and will eat out of a person’s hand if fed.
