Man breaks neck in pool dive

According to paramedics the man is fighting for his life after the horrific accident.

A 41-YEAR-OLD man has broken his neck after diving head first into a public pool in Effingham. The incident occurred at the Firwood Road Swimming Pool. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, a lifeguard at the pool pulled the man out.

Netcare 911 and Crisis Medical were also in attendance.

“When paramedics arrived, the man was laying on his side and unable to feel anything from the neck down. Eye-witnesses said he dived head first into the pool. He has been taken through to King Edward VIII Hospital in a serious condition. At this stage it is too soon to say whether the man has suffered any form of paralysis,” he said.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha said the man is fighting for his life and was placed on a ventilator at the scene.

“Due to the spinal trauma suffered he was placed on a ventilator at the scene and is being transported to hospital.”
