Kayla makes waves on local scene

Kayla is one of a number of surfers taking part in this year's Lizzard Hurricane Summer Surf contest at Umhlanga Main Beach.

ENTRIES for the Lizzard Hurricane Summer Surf contest at Umhlanga Main Beach on 10 and 11 December have been pouring in and it is looking to be another record year. As always, the event will open up the Umhlanga Summer Festival hosted which takes place from 10 until 23 of December.

A star studded selection of surfers have entered already including local 13 year old rising star Kayla Nogueira. Kayla is the current U13 girls SA champion and is ranked first in the U14 girls SA Pro Tour for 2016.

Kayla is coached by South African Surfer Chad du Toit and has been putting in a lot of time in between exams preparing for the event.

“J Bay is my favourite place to surf but I still love coming to uMhlanga as it is so close to home. This competition is always fun because the water is warm and it is the start of the summer holidays.”

Professional and beginner surfers from all over South Africa who will all be aiming for a share of the close on R50 000 prize money and products. Entries close on Tuesday, 6 December and forms can be downloaded from www.umhlangafestivals.co.za.
